At St. John Neumann, we offer a variety of extra-curricular activities that students may participate in, some of which are:
Academic Decathlon
An educational competition that challenges students in ten areas of academic achievement - science, literature, art, music, social science, economics, mathematics, an essay, public speaking and the team competition. There are two scrimmages, a regional meet, a state meet and a national meet annually. Students in Grades 9-12 take part in Ac Dec. For more information, visit www.usad.org.
Odyssey of the Mind
A creative problem-solving compeition that encourges "out of the box" thinking skills. Students Grades 3-12 are encouraged to join teams of 5-7 participants. Parents are encouraged to coach the team. OotM teams perform at the regional, state and world level. We are proud to be one of the few schools in the area that consistently has a team or teams qualify for the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals, a prestigious event that features teams from across the USA and around the world. Since 2001, SJNRA has sent 29 teams to World Finals; 18 of them placed in the Top 6 in the world, 11 of them placed in the Top 3 and one was a World Champion.
