Social and Emotional Learning​
 

At Saint John Neumann Regional Academy, we believe that educating the whole child means nurturing not only academic growth, but also the heart, mind, and spirit. Our Social and Emotional Learning programs help students develop the skills they need to understand themselves, build healthy relationships, make responsible decisions, and navigate the world with confidence, compassion, and faith.

Rooted in our Catholic identity, our Noble Knights program provides a shared foundation for creating a school community where every student is encouraged to grow in character, treat others with kindness and respect, and discover their God-given gifts. The Noble Knights program provides a consistent foundation for Social and Emotional Learning from preschool through 12th grade. As students grow, the program grows with them—reinforcing the same core values and expectations while adapting to their developmental and social-emotional needs at each stage of their education.

 

We nourish students through intentional instruction, counseling, reflection, and daily practice, we help our students become caring, resilient, and responsible members of their school, family, and community.

Our Noble Knights program is the foundation of our Social and Emotional Learning (SEL).  It is based upon our Catholic Identity and brings together all of our smaller programs, including Kindness Matters, Olweus Bullying Prevention, Positive Behavior Interventions, as well as Restorative Discipline.  By applying this program consistently and systematically across the academy, we will create a positive culture among our school community that will be carried out throughout the students’ lives. The Noble Knights mission and expectations are posted throughout our school buildings and will be cited daily. Teachers have been provided training in the areas of self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationships, and responsible decision-making.  These core SEL skills will be taught to students to develop positive prosocial behaviors and enhance learning opportunities.

Social and emotional education is offered through both group sessions and individual counseling by our school counselors. Weekly lessons are taught in grades Pre-K through 8th grade through both the Friendzy program and Olweus Bully Prevention program. 

 

Friendzy is a faith based character development program.  Weekly lessons are brought to the classroom in the following areas:

Self worth/self-esteem

How to be a good bystander

How to be Assertive

Self-Awareness

Communication

Listening skills

Responsible Decision making
