The Innovative Learning Model

At Saint John Neumann Regional Academy, we believe education should prepare students not only for college and careers, but for all that life has to offer. Our Innovative Learning Model gives students the freedom to explore their interests, discover their God-given talents, and connect their education to the world around them.

The model includes a four-day school week, with curriculum hours Monday through Thursday, from 7:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and Fridays designated as “Innovative Fridays.”.

This provides students grades 6-12 dedicated opportunities to step beyond the traditional classroom through internships, college visits, field trips, hands-on learning, service, and real-world experiences. This approach encourages students to become independent, curious, and confident learners who are prepared to pursue their unique paths after Saint John Neumann.

Mission

Our mission with this model is to cultivate curious, capable, faith-filled young adults who are prepared to navigate the future with purpose. We encourage students to ask questions, explore possibilities, take initiative, and discover how their gifts can make a difference in our community.

By connecting classroom learning with meaningful experiences in the community, students gain a deeper understanding of who they are, what they are capable of, and where their future may lead.

Goals

Our Innovative Learning Model is designed to give students the time, space, and experiences they need to discover who they are and how they can impact the world. Through our four-day school week, we aim to:

  • Discover God-given talents — Encourage students to explore their interests, strengths, and potential future paths.

  • Gain real-world experience — Provide opportunities for internships, hands-on learning, field trips, college visits, and career exploration.

  • Build community connections — Help students engage with local businesses, organizations, colleges, and community leaders.

  • Make time for family — Create greater opportunities for students to spend meaningful time with their families outside of the traditional school schedule.

  • Explore beyond the classroom — Give students opportunities to learn through experiences, travel, service, and discovery.

  • Protect the learning experience — Allow extracurricular activities, appointments, and other opportunities to take place without interrupting students’ academic learning time.

Proposed Partnerships and Learning Opportunities include:

  • College Partnerships — Penn College, Lycoming College, and other local colleges and universities

  • Career Exploration & Internships — Internships, job shadowing, mentorships, and career-based experiences with local businesses

Teacher: Mrs. Chris Miller

“It is structured to put the established academic curriculum into the four days and then the extras into the fifth day. That is ingenious.”

Parent: Rachelle Abbott

"My son is most excited about entering into the community, engaging with higher education, and really bringing what he's learning into the real world."

Student: Justin Crosby

“I'm pretty excited about the field trips and being able to explore options in terms of careers and going on college visits.”
